Event categories and subcategories help you organize events, filter your event list, and control which events appear in plugins and widgets.
Where Categories Are Used
Categories and subcategories are used in three main areas:
- Event setup & editing
- Event list filtering inside VBO
- Plugins and widgets on your website
Assigning a Category to an Event
You can assign a category and subcategory when creating a new event or editing an existing one.

Filtering Events Inside VBO
In the Open Events or Closed Events view, you can filter by category. This allows you to quickly view only specific event types (e.g., only Dance events or only Sporting Events). This is especially helpful when managing a large number of events. Simply choose the event category from the drop down menu at the top of of the Events page.

Using Categories with Plugins & Widgets
Categories and subcategories also control which events appear on your website.
Example:
If you have a separate website for Dance events, you can configure a plugin or widget to only display events from the Dance category.

To edit the category on a plugin:


Widgets work the same way as plugins:
- Navigate to the Widgets menu under the integrations menu and locate the widget you want to edit.
- Select the category you want to display
- Optionally select a subcategory to narrow results further
- Only events matching those filters will appear
