Learn how to create a stock donation letter template and process stock gifts in the system. This guide also explains how to use a custom payment type (such as ‘Stock Donation’) when completing the order.

Step 1: Create a Stock Letter Template

  1. Go to Setup > Templates > Templates

  2. Click the Add Template button on the top of the page

  3. In the template type dropdown, select Donor Letter

  4. Name the template (for example: Stock Letter)

  5. Draft your letter

  6. Use the Placeholder menu to add stock gift fields such as number of shares, symbol, value

  7. When finished, click Add to save the template

Step 2: Process a Stock Donation

  1. Go to Box Office > Box Office > Donation

  2. In Contribution Type, select Stock Gift

  3. Enter the following information:

  • Amount of the stock gift received from the bank
  • Transfer Date of the stock
  • Number of Shares
  • Stock Symbol
  • Total Value
  • Value Per Share

  • Confirm the correct Campaign and other related settings
  • Under Letter Template, select the Stock Letter you created earlier

  • Click Add Donation

  • You will be taken to the cart screen to complete processing

NOTE: Processing the order will use a Custom payment type. If you have not created a custom payment type, learn more about this HERE. You can call the custom payment type something like "Stock Donation".

That’s it. You now have a saved stock donation letter template and can process stock gifts directly in the system.
